Red, near and far

We have red. In splashes. Glowing in late light, shining this morning.

Hawthorn berries in hedgerows alongside the island roads.

And, on the distant hillsides, I notice red trees and realise it’s not their turning leaves but their berries that make them glow like little beacons.
