A Catching the Whispers taster

It’s Friday and so here’s something for you to try. I’ve used this activity several times in groups and it almost always works to help turn a problem around or shift it a little. Like the activities in Catching the Whispers - open for booking now! - it aims to support you in tapping into your intuitive self and exploring other ways of seeing things.

You will need piece of paper (A4 is good, any size will do) and a pen or pencil, and 10 minutes.

Choose something that is bothering you. It might be a problem at work or in the family. It might be a decision you can’t quite make or something that’s annoying you.

Draw a box on the paper, about 4-6 inches square. Start doodling in the box about your issue. Just let your pen or pencil move across the paper – it might want to stop and make some hard marks; it might want to make a shape; it might want to colour in. Let your feelings come to mind and come out on to the paper through your pen or pencil.

After about three minutes, longer if you want, stop drawing and turn your piece of paper upside down.

Now look at it, really look at it, and let it speak to you.

What new ways of seeing the problem are suddenly opened up to you? What kind of feelings is that picture giving you now?

You should find that the reverse drawing suggests some new metaphors – light instead of dark, open rather than closed.

Let the picture whisper to you. Let it suggest new ways of perceiving your problem and or a solution to it or a way to make that decision or to think differently.

Finish by making some notes on the drawing so you can look back and remember the whispers that you heard.

Book your place on Catching the Whispers before 27 October and there’s a £20 early bird discount.
