Twelve years ago, I was working full time as a professor and researcher in a university. I had big projects and my long-term career goals were being achieved. I used weekends to pursue my painting. But the yearning for more would get to me whenever I stopped long enough to breathe.
Not more money, not more fun, just more - a vague yearning for something more colourful than committee meetings, strategic planning, and academic texts, for deeper experience.
I began to choose differently, to explore my life and its possibilities, to take courses in personal development, to experience life coaching. Most recently I have worked with Chris Zydel and Tim Lajoie at Creative Juices Arts to become a ‘Master Facilitator in Intuitive Painting’. A series of brilliant women (and the occasional man) helped me uncover my desire for a poetic life, and to create it.
I built a studio practice that fills me with delight, painting and writing every day. And my life continues to grow and change. The fears and boredom may come back but now I have the tools to deal with them, and to choose to keep growing.
